Dec. 11, 6:30 p.m.: The Shop Around the Corner (1940)

Featuring James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan, this pre-WWII classic tells the funny tale of two shop workers who can’t stand each other. Both are writing to pen pals, with whom they are falling in love.

Well … you can see where this is headed!

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Frank Morgan, fresh off another MGM classic a year earlier and his defining role as the Wizard of Oz.

Dec. 20, 6:30 p.m.: Holiday Affair

It’s retail hijinks in this classic 1949 Christmas comedy, staring Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh.

Just before Christmas, department store clerk Steve Mason meets big spending customer Connie Ennis, who is really a secret shopper for a competitor. He unmasks her but lets her go, which gets him fired. They end up on a date, which doesn’t sit well with Connie’s steady suitor, Carl, but delights her son Timmy, who doesn’t want Carl for a step-dad.

Dec. 23, 6:30 p.m.: Meet Me In Saint Louis

Set in 1903 St. Louis, this holiday classic and musical stars Judy Garland and Margaret O’Brien.

The well-off Smith family has four beautiful daughters. 17-year old Esther has fallen in love with the boy next door who has just moved in, John. He however barely notices her at first. The family is shocked when Mr. Smith reveals that he has been transferred to a new job in New York, which means that the family has to leave St. Louis and the St. Louis Fair.
