Major Portion of Streetscape Phase 3 Completed

The intersection of Main and Commercial streets reopened on March 2.

It’s a great time to visit Historic Downtown Branson and see in-person the great changes that have been happening this winter. A major portion of the Streetscape Phase 3 renovations have been completed, and Main Street has reopened. Also completed is the section of Commercial Street between Main Street and Pacific Street, now open with new wide sidewalks and clearly marked parking spots.

Construction on the block of Commercial Street north of Main is still ongoing and is expected to be completed by May.

Workers lay brick pavers and set up concrete forms at the intersection of Main and Commercial Streets in mid-February 2017.

The Phase 3 renovation project began Jan. 3. In addition to the beautiful new sidewalks, street lights, street signs, crosswalks and common areas, Commercial Street and its intersection with Main Street have been completely rebuilt. Beneath the new concrete and brick pavers is completely new utility infrastructure, replacing old wiring and pipes that in some cases dated to the era of Branson’s incorporation as a city in the early 20th century.

Liberty Plaza will feature a stage, waterfall, picnic area, public restrooms and a new trolley stop.

You’ll also notice the dramatic progress that’s taken place on the new Liberty Plaza, which occupies half of a block along Veterans Boulevard between Pacific Street and College Street. A new rock wall separates the park from Veterans Boulevard, and new public restrooms, a picnic area and a new trolley stop are nearing completion. Liberty Plaza will also function as an entertainment and special events venue. The new plaza is expected to open before Memorial Day 2017.
